G-Interact!
By Jessica Shea on March 27, 2020
Hello classmates! As we are in an uncertain time during this global health pandemic, I’ve listened to educators from my province and created a product that would help centralize all learning into one platform. Introducing G-Interact – an application/extension that can be added directly into your Google Classroom! Check out the G-Interact website to learn […]

Hi Matt, thanks for your feedback. I think what separates G-Interact from a product such as zoom is that this application will be directly within Google Classroom. No need to use another platform or a link that opens up a different window. G-Interact is directly in Google Classroom. You click the link and it opens directly within google classroom, then a recording of the session remains in Google Classroom!

(Feedback)Hi Greg I think this is a great idea. I do however believe there would be some competition in this area. Just as an example, when I was in high school I did ‘Enterprise’ which was a business course where we essentially had to do the same thing you are presenting. (It is a course available to all high school students in NL). The only difference being some of the technologies you would use, although I’m sure by now they are using similar technologies. It would be interesting to see what the difference in these two programs would be at this age.

(Feedback) Hi Robert. This is a great idea - And something we are desperate for! I have been so concerned for my students who struggle with mental health over the last few weeks of this pandemic. Being at school and getting the help they need is essential, and without this it is scary to think about.

(Feedback)Hi Ram, I am very familiar with the need for learning opportunities in rural communities as I worked in a northern isolated Inuit community last year to teach. It is a nice idea, but after experiencing life there, the internet is definitely not guaranteed and it is very expensive to get resources to a community, or students out of a community. I lived in a fly in community of 300 people. Internet was slow, and needed to be fixed often, but because of constant blizzards and northern conditions - we were often last on the list. I think this would be awesome, but there would need to be a lot of progress made in those communities for this to be feasible. I would have liked to have had a link to your site you were showing in your videos so I could look closer at what you were displaying. I will admit it is hard to get past the voice used for the pitch, but I understand the predicament of not having access to your office!

(Feedback) Hi Emily, I think this product poses a problem for people who are vulnerable to eating disorders and have struggled with weight issues throughout their lives. I think it is nice to have a way for students to remain healthy while entering post secondary and a particularly stressful time. Because of this I would not invest. Maybe the major focus should be on being healthy, not gaining weight.

(Feedback) Hi Carla, I think this is a great idea. It is important to target students at young ages as well as women in the STEM professions. Your pitch was captivating and well put together. You have identified a gap in this area and have found a way to fill it. With more research, I would invest! Great work!

(Feedback) Hi Christopher! I love this idea and would find it very useful as a grade 5 teacher. First, I think you did great with your elevator pitch; I understood your product right away. I think there is a major need for a product like this. The online providers/platforms you mention in your venture pitch are platforms I am using daily and I would definitely invest! Great idea!

(Review) Hi Carlo - First I’d like to mention that your elevator pitch was very attention-grabbing. You seemed like you knew exactly what you were talking about and after the first couple seconds I was intrigued - which I think is the point of an elevator pitch - so good job there! I definitely see a need for this, and I think you would have every teacher agree they would want to eliminate the many hours spent on marking. But, I do see the benefit being a lot greater in higher education, or in provincial assessments where you are looking for trends in a mass group of students. As a grade 5 teacher, however, and marking on a 1-4 scale, I need to look at what a student is doing and the processes they are using in order to see where exactly they need help. A lot of times marking is how I get to know my students; seeing their patterns, mistakes, etc. This is really how I see where the problems lie and I develop a plan from there. I think an investment can be made in this for higher education, but I do not see the need in lower education.

(Review) Hi Amanda, I think this is a good idea. While this venture is irrelevant to my own personal career path, I do see how this could be helpful to the employer, as it would free up a lot of their time and stress. I think it is essential that new employees have the correct amount of support they would need in order to successfully implement themselves into a new employment, especially with the statistics you stated on how many people leave their jobs due to lack of support in the early weeks. You also make a great point about how during a pandemic, like what is happening now, essentially everything is being digitized, so that would be extremely helpful to new employees. However, as I do think this would be helpful, I can see there being some issues with hands on employment that would require person-to-person training. I think in many areas, no ChatBot can replace the training and/or support that a human interaction can replace. But when it comes to certain questions, such as payroll, this could be a great tool! I would recommend this to be invested in for large office type jobs. Perhaps federal jobs where you have people in every province doing the same jobs because the pool of people needing it would have to be big enough in order for it to be worth it.
