A3 Venture Pitch: DESIGN.ED

A3 Venture Pitch: DESIGN.ED

By Jay Wong on July 31, 2017

Hi everyone, Here is my elevator pitch for my venture called DESIGN.ED:   I’ve decided to keep my venture pitch private as this idea was the product of discussion with some colleagues and not solely my own idea. However, I thought it might be helpful to include some discussion on the venture’s imagined risks regarding […]

Brainitz – Turn Educational Videos Into Interactive Lessons

By Jay Wong on May 31, 2017

Brainitz was first inspired by challenges faced within the flipped classroom. This web-based tool allows teachers to embed questions into their recorded lessons, making them interactive and more engaging with students. If students do not answer a question correctly, the video replays and repeats the question. More information is available on their Kickstarter page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1175827717/turn-educational-videos-into-interactive-lessons?ref=popular

Hi Janna, Thank you for sharing your venture pitch! I enjoyed the elevator pitch and it successfully lead me to the learning more within the developed venture pitch. The audio was a bit hard to hear however, and a stronger recording would help to more effectively engage an audience. You did an excellent job of addressing a pain point. I'm sure many of us did not realize this was an existing issue and your expertise in this specific subject area makes you worthy venture leader. - I think some of the media on the venture pitch could have been better organized. Some of the buttons on the website are not functioning and the hierarchy of information on the brochure became a little lost. - Some of the information I would have liked to see from your venture includes more on the differentiation and what makes your venture uniquely positioned to succeed. Other aspects that could have been elaborated are the ask, as the venture seems like a non-profit cause and it is unclear what the business model would be for growing the business and making a profit. Last, you have touched upon this a bit, but I would have loved to learn more about you as an entrepreneur and where the passion for this worthy cause comes from as it helps to rope in the investor. Great job overall, I enjoyed looking at your work. Thank you!

10 Jun Posted on James Colliander – CEO and founder of Crowdmark

And I thought marking 325 student exams was tough! To me this venture exemplifies identifying a problem and answering with a solution. As Charmalee mentioned, it is crucial to gather a team that covers the skills you may be lacking in order to effectively execute concepts that may be brilliant in your head. I'm definitely interested in trying out this venture once it becomes available as well.

What an awesome venture! I would have loved to have a resource like this as a kid. Gamification really seems to go a long way to appeal to the youth audience, and these relevant skills they can develop through the app sound fantastic. Furthermore, I think both these founders are very worthy role models. It sounds like Klein in particular has a knack for predicting and investing in tech startups that have done very well for themselves. There seems to be a theme throughout the ventures that have been shared in the Founders Parade; it seems that money is never the primary motivation and that a majority of these founders have a background related to the venture they pursued and identified areas of improvement within their industries.

10 Jun Posted on John Baker: President and CEO of D2L

I am definitely curious to learn more about John's motivation behind developing D2L and what holes he identified in competitors' products that would allow his product to shine. My school switched over from Blackboard as a LMS to D2L a couple of years ago and to be honest I haven't yet figured out what D2L offers that Blackboard did not. Nonetheless I think John is a great role model for students and demonstrates that projects completed in university can have very real world implications if enough passion and dedication are put towards completing them.

25 May Posted on Virtual and Augmented Reality – Market Analysis

Great share! I've been aware of Augmented Reality for roughly four years now, starting when it was still a very new technology. At the time its functionality was considered somewhat niche and it was hard to imagine its potential for greater societal implications, what standards would develop around its use, and whether adoption would become as mainstream as other smartphone technologies such as QR codes. I think the fact that AREA exists is especially useful for learning technology specialists and venturers, who will help contribute towards creating the 'comprehensive ecosystem'. I personally am bookmarking this site to visit in the future as I think I fit nicely into the group 3. My students are invested in harmoniously pairing print with digital and see the benefit in AR to achieve this. Google is really pushing AR technology forward with Google Lens, which will allow users to employ the power of search by utilizing a phone camera.
