Venture Pitch: EduJourney
By kgill on August 3, 2014
Hi, I chose to create an “imagined initiative” for my venture pitch. I am hoping I haven’t used too much imagination for this project (I think I got carried away). Anyway, please see: http://kuljindergill.wix.com/venturepitch to view my venture pitch. My elevator pitch is on the Home page (you may want to view it on full […]

Hi everyone! I am a new teacher currently in my second year of teaching. I work in the Surrey School District in British Columbia, Canada as a Learner Support Team (LST) Teacher. I am currently in my 9th and 10th MET courses. The reason why I chose this course is because I am interested in […]

FEEDBACK: I liked your question approach. It was a great way to highlight your pain point and solution. The video was also nicely done. However, I have some questions: are you looking for an investor? what is the ask/return? I know it’s difficult to put all that in with a 1 minute time constraint, but I felt like your pitch gave me a general overview of the company and not a lot of information for investors.

FEEDBACK: As a classroom and ESL teacher, I know it’s not easy to teach students English. Your venture sounds interesting and promising. You speak confidently and professionally in your elevator pitch. I’m just curious what you’re seeking from investors and potential partners and what they will receive in return (I know it's a lot to cram into a 1 minute pitch).

REVIEW- I was ready to learn more about your venture after viewing your elevator pitch. You were very confident and well-spoken, it definitely got me intrigued. First off, your website is clean and well-presented. I love the elephant—so cute! You thoroughly execute a critical EVA. The phone reminder image examples really brought the venture to life. This venture is definitely affordable, making it more desirable for consumers and attractive for investors. I appreciated the thorough competition analysis. I thought it was very smart to highlight the privacy and security features that make Remind-E different from competitors. However, I am concerned that the product name is very similar to Remind 101. Yes, I think I would invest in this venture. The only problem I have is that you are evaluating your company at $200,000 with no sales or proof of concept in the market, and just on projections for the future. I think I would ask for a counter offer before I invest (sorry, I think I watch too much Dragon’s Den and Shark Tank). Overall, a solid effort and great execution!

REVIEW- I was immediately intrigued by your venture. As a teacher and Learner Support Team teacher (also known as a resource teacher), I know it’s not easy teaching students how to read! I really love this idea. Especially since I know that it’s difficult for some parents to read to/with their child(ren) every day. I know you briefly discuss the competition in this market, but I wish you discussed it further. Although I know of a product similar to Reading Buddy, called RAZ kids, the only difference that I can think of is that Ready Buddy allows for the buddy to record the text. Question: are you the only venture that includes a French text with recording? I appreciated the in-depth discussion on the investment funds and how you will be using them. At this time, I think I would invest in this venture. I think this is an excellent idea but I’m just concerned if the little buddy won’t read at home if they don’t like their big buddy (I have seen this happen a couple times). How can Reading Buddy avoid this problem? Overall, a wonderful idea and great pitch. Thanks!

FEEDBACK: I’m a sucker for accents and was hooked by the speaker at the beginning of the video. Also, your real-world example made me curious and immediately intrigued. You provide us with some important information in your elevator pitch. However, I am just wondering what amount you’re asking from investors and what you’re exactly going to use the money for (I know it's a lot squeeze into a 1 minute pitch). PS: I really liked the background music.

FEEDBACK: First off, I love the name Digital Migrators! You spoke clearly and confidently in your elevator pitch. I’m just a bit curious about how much money you need for an investment and how you’re going to spend the money exactly (although it is difficult to fit that information within a 1 minute time constraint). Nicely done!

FEEDBACK Strengths: Your elevator pitch is intriguing, as you drew me in with your practical references. I also appreciated knowing how successful the business is. I think this venture can be very useful to people working in groups (especially in our MET program!). The five-year growth projection in your proposal really paints a picture on the direction your venture is going to be taking—nice touch! Weaknesses: I was hoping that you would have discussed the competition a bit more in your proposal. Overall, you did a great job!

FEEDBACK Strengths: I like the statement you used right in the beginning of your elevator pitch, it was a good hook and sparked my interest. I think the concept is interesting and could help a lot of students. You have a very powerful team with Google by your side but it made me wonder: why do you need an investment from me if Google is working with you? Weaknesses: When you stated, “Virtual Angel learns and adapts with your child,” I was a bit confused on how it would learn. I think I was just having a hard time understanding how the product works. I think I would have been more excited about this venture if you discussed in a bit more detail on how the product worked in your elevator pitch (but with a 1 minute time constraint, I can see why you didn’t have enough time to do that). Great work!
