GloballyRED

By laila on November 28, 2016

Hi Everyone, The name of my venture is called GloballyRED, which is a peer-editing service initially aimed at post-graduate students.  This venture connects students to other enrolled students on a global level to offer peer-editing and feedback.  GloballyRED can be implemented with any existing learning management system. Take a look at my elevator pitch.  It […]

Week 6: Microlearning Activity Summaries

By laila on October 16, 2016

Hi Everyone, Throughout the week, various activities allowed the opportunity for you to analyze multiple components and dimensions of microlearning.  In activity 1, you tested various video clips to determine which would fit the constructed definition of ‘microlearning.’  Activity 2 created the opportunity to participate in a lesson focusing on the benefits and drawbacks for […]

Hi Josh, I really enjoyed your elevator and venture pitch. I think this venture has great potential. I would invest some into this. I think "always in the giftshop" is a great way to capture attention and interest in the product. I think being able to bring travel to those who are unable to. I think you did a really great job at displaying why your product and technology are different and stand out within the current offerings.

Hi Joyce, I think you have some great ideas here, but the cost of implementation is what makes me hesitant to invest in this. The pricing that you list, how does this get broken down? Schools today are very cautious with the way that money is spent and high costs are not something that is appealing to many schools. I also am concerned about the amount of choice that students have. Is there anything stopping a student from continually choosing the same medium? At this point, I am not sure if I would invest in this or not. I would need further time and answers to make a decision.

Hi Craig, I think this venture has great potential, but this is not something that I would invest in. I think gasification of teaching is great, but not necessarily translated easily into many subject areas. I can see games working in the maths/sciences but not necessarily so in the english/humanities. While there is a strong idea here, it does not become specific or tailored enough for me. The use of games in teaching is not new and has been a popular for quite awhile.

6 Dec Posted on Assignment 3: Venture Pitch for MyStory App

Hi Jason, I think that this is a great idea! This is a venture that I would invest in. It can reach a great amount of people, and also enters into a realm that does not have much competition yet. I think this could even be taken one step further for english language learners. Many english sayings do not translate nicely, and do not make sense in other languages (e.g. top of the morning). I think that this app could be beneficial to many people and areas. Looking forward to seeing this!

Hi Edwin, I think your venture has great potential. Perhaps because this hits a personal cord, but ultimately I think you address many issues that caregivers have. I think that your enthusiasm and expertise on this subject make you a great face to the company, and the examples provided of the app show that this would be easy to use. This is a venture that I would invest in due to the rapid aging population and the stress that is occurring on the resource banks. I look forward to seeing this advance!

6 Dec Posted on ETEC 522: Elevator & Venture Pitch – Content Connections

This seems like a really great venture, but some areas are slightly unclear to me. While this is centred around online math learning, what role does the classroom teacher play? Does the classroom teacher play a role? With many online learning courses there is still a form of lead or instruction - is this led by the school boards or does your company provide the leadership? While I think it is fantastic that this company is growing and expanding at such a fast rate, at this time I would not invest in this company. I am seeing many schools and school boards developing their own online course offerings without the help of outside sources.

6 Dec Posted on Assignment 3: Venture Pitch for Schulich Startup Online Community

Hi Galina, Your enthusiasm for business and wanting business students to succeed is clearly evident in your venture. While this is a wonderful idea to have students supported in their start ups, I do not think that this is a company I would invest in. As mentioned in previous posts, if I was enrolled in one of the elite business schools, this is something that I would come to expect with the educational package. Mentors and past alumni often help for free, and with elite schools often elite alumni come back to share their experiences and expertise.

6 Dec Posted on Assignment 3 – Spotify Business

Hi Colleen, Your website looks great and provides a really well rounded overview of spotify business. As a whole, this is not a venture that I would invest in for the sole reason that I am not sure how much interest there is surrounded on staying up to date and current in business trends and news. I think most people would glance over as a quick hobby or check in, but would not use this type of app as often as one would use the music side of spotify. I think there is more of a connection for music as being more universal where as business information and background is for a more specific, targeted group of individuals.

Hi Wani, Your presentation was beautiful and very easy to navigate. I think you have a great idea here, but what is lacking is what makes this different from other online language learning websites and services? With ELL I find that the market is saturated with many products and companies already. At this time, I would not invest but I would be interested in seeing what arises in the future after some time is spent in the early stages of implementation!

I think this is a really great product, and the personal story behind it is one that shows your passion for the project. However, I think with such a focus on the charitable aspect so early on, many investors may be turned on of this, with a fear of low profits and wide spread use. If I was investing, I would most likely pass on this project during the early stages. However, this is something that I would support as a charitable donation without expect much in return for it.
