Twine – interactive fiction for all!
By Dominic Maggiolo on June 20, 2016
Hey everyone, I wrote my analyst report on a great piece of open sourced software called Twine. Twine allows you to write non-lineare, text-based games. I’ve used it countless times in my classroom. Though not inherently popular in the education sector (yet), I have a feeling it will catch on to some degree. Perhaps not Twine […]

REVIEW: GBL is hot at the moment. My biggest critique is the massive market that has already been tapped into and dominated by the big ventures out there right now. You'll be competing against Google, Microsoft, Sony and the likes, including all the other startups backed by major donors. I like your website and I think it is well presented. Your interface is neat and I think what would make you stand out is the real, authentic topics tackled in your games. These are important and these matter. This is where your work would stand out from the rest. It is however a very competitive market and would need major funding, quick.

REVIEW: Neat. This is what I like to see. VR and AR are WAY too competitive of markets to break into right now, though I believe your niche idea would breakthrough. It's clear you've researched your product and area. Well articulated and well presented. This would be amazing for students to play and learn Bball, especially with the lack of gym time students get. This does however have neat perspective in competitive play. Overall, awesome idea, well designed and straightforward. I do see this being duplicated. But this hasn't stopped anyone. Cool stuff!

REVIEW: Cool. Well researched and well presented. Topical and current. It does however have room to grow. VR and AR are still privileged tools and unfortunately not accessible to many. This is a costly venture and could cause many economical issues. If well funded and supported, it could prove otherwise. While I believe VR and AR are not quite there for use in the classroom, I'm certain that eventually this could be of good use. I do find it flashy. Sure it'll hook some students, but it hasn't proven otherwise. Your business is time sensitive. You need the best of the best to manage and work this venture. The market is so unbelievably competitive, especially with Google and the likes. Overall, well articulated pitch.

REVIEW: I'm not sure I would invest. In fact, I stream or download most of my content from sites such as Netflix to show my students. What I DO like is the little bells attached to your product, such as the rating, the feedback, the discussion, current topics. I do see this venture working for teachers (saves on time, you know it is safe/clean and works well for using in a pinch). I think your best sell here is the topic based algorithm. Overall, this can work and would do well. The pitch was well articulated and the venture pitch was well researched and presented in a way that is easy to understand.

REVIEW: I like this. I can see this working and I believe there is a small market for this. I do however see this being duplicated, reproduced or even streamlined. Then again, what isn't? Overall, I believe you've researched your venture in a way that is compelling and would make me consider investing. I think, personally there is a market for this. I'm one to speak that this something I would likely use or reference. I see this venture working outside or education a lot more strongly than in education specifically. I appreciate the fact that you're encouraging academic honesty. There are some Google Plugins and the likes that offer similar resources, though I think if developed effectively this could work.

REVIEW: Cool. I like this. I'm always a fan of streamlining communication. This is needed and would save on A LOT OF TIME. Really, it would. I think this would be amazing. I do see some issues with it though. It will be easily duplicated and improved on. It will sell for cheaper and it will spread like wildfire (which can be good). There are some security issues, there are some potential labor issues (taking work away from admin and administrative assistants, etc), though this hasn't stopped anyone from creating UBER and the likes. As a teacher. I would love it. In fact, I try my best to find ways in which makes sending and receiving ADMIN docs from parents easier. Well done.

REVIEW: Good pitch, well articulated. Pedagogically, I don't necessarily subscribe to the idea of testing, I do see this working in other sectors. Though moving at a glacial pace, education has (started) and will eventually phase out tablets. Now testing is also going to eventually become something where many teachers phase out, especially in the elementary years. I do see this working with corporate learning or other sectors. I like that it is paperless. I like that I could build a quick assessment if need be. It can be useful, though I would have a hard time backing a venture based on testing (as a teacher anyway). Overall, the pitch was professional and well done.

REVIEW: Cool. I like it. I'm a massive fan of anything open, generally. I think this could have some potential in the future, however, it may require a bit of fine tuning. Assessment isn't always easy and sometimes a point of frustration to many, especially in Higher Education. I do think your competitors would attempt to buy you out though, honestly. I like your plan. It is well detailed, well researched and well put together. You have a strong ask and a strong composition. I think this would work really well.

REVIEW: I can see this working. I grew up in a mining town and know many who work in the mining industry. Corporate learning has come a long way and in many cases has cemented itself within whatever business they are in. Your venture does fall in line with many of the already established corporate learning organizations out there. I'm happy to see that you have researched the sector quite well and I think your venture could blossom based on the potential investors that may come into play. You have strong competitors. Perhaps make your pedagogy a lot more specialized? Mining in rural, difficult or dangerous areas. The human side of mining...things like that.

REVIEW: This is neat but you're competing with a plethora of other big contenders in this business. What would make this standout is a true, real and proper relationship with these organizations that will allow you to see and explore meaningful experiences. You see it time and time again in places like Science World, or other museums. They cheapen the learning experience, it doesn't captivate me. In fact, many children get bored. I like the expert bit. This is where you're going to capture your audience. The cost also works for you, though could be an issue as a smaller business. Eventually, it will be matched. Not sure the robot is necessary. Perhaps mounted go-pros + other simple tech might make it seem a bit cooler. The setup aspect seems good. Would love to see the drone aspect as well. Overall, neat.
