Welcome from Victoria
By mikemo44 on September 6, 2014
This is my 5th course as part of the MET and it is the one that I am looking most forward to. I have been teaching in Victoria for about 6 years and spent much of that time teaching in alternative education at the high school level. One of my goals for this course […]

This is a good idea. I can see it being a welcomed app by parents and students. The graphic that displays the map with the bus route and timing is quite effective. It was also a good idea to provide the graphic charts with the app revenue data. It might have been useful to use more of these types of visuals earlier on in your presentation, especially when speaking about numbers or statistics that could be hard to absorb for potential investors who are visual learners. I think that, with your experience, you present yourself as someone who has solid understanding of who will be using this, what the problem is and how to solve it. Overall, this is a great idea and you did a great job with your pitches.

I really like the idea you have presented here. The elevator pitch was good but there might have been a bit too much text there. Either that, or I am just a slow reader. This may be true because I also liked your use of diagrams in your venture pitch. You mention in your reflection that your idea comes from your own personal experience. I feel that these are the best ideas because you have a personal perspective of both the problem and the solution. I think your ask was reasonable given the fact that there will likely be a lot of bugs that need to be ironed out by a support team. Overall, this was an interesting and well done venture pitch.

I like the choices of media that you used for both of your pitches. Your elevator pitch put a face to the business and I liked how you embedded video in your Uberflip Mag (the 70-20-10 video was quite informative). It was a good idea to integrate your product with Outlook as this is something that most investors would already be familiar with, and showing the number of people that already use the program was a good idea. I did not notice how much you were seeking in terms of the ask. Overall, you did a great job on both of your pitches.

Good product and idea.It sounds like you have a lot of experience in this field and puts you in a good position to lead a product like this. It was a good idea to put a picture in the "who we are" section as this puts a face to the business. I am a little unsure as to what the exact problem is that you are solving and how you plan to address the problem in a way that is unique to your company. I think it was a good choice to use animation for your elevator pitch, but it moved a bit too quickly for me. I liked the choice of Prezi and the fact that you did not overwhelm the reader with too much text. Overall, well done.

You have a good concept. I like the idea that the learner can choose to talk about anything they like such as movies. It was a good idea to add pictures of yourself and your team. It might be a good idea to include some images in the rest of your content to help break-up the text. I read your reflection and I agree that while completing the elevator pitch,it was difficult to fit it all into the short time limit. Despite that, I felt you did a good job. This clearly is a large market and you are onto a good idea here.

Both of your pitches demonstrate that you are someone who is passionate about this topic. You also present yourself and your team as being frontrunners in the search for a viable solution. I like the idea of using games to deliver the testing as this would definitely make it more suitable for children. The only question that I had was that you mention it is low-cost, and I was wondering how you plan to keep the costs down of what seems to be a rather complex solution. Overall, I think this is a great idea and if it is possible, you seem like the perfect person to lead this project into development.

You did a great job here Marcia. I really like how you used the animations for the sections of your venture pitch. It was also good to use the video of yourself for the elevator pitch as this makes your presentation more personal. Your message is clear and easy to follow. You have a solid understanding of the problem and how to solve it. The $250 entry fee might be a bit pricey for some people, but I do like the idea of adding a reduced fee for contributions o the library. Overall, I was very impressed with your presentation.

You seem to be onto a creative idea here, but it is still a little vague to me. You note this in your reflection as you mention that with more time, you would refine the services that you are offering. I too felt that with more time, or if this project was completed with a partner, that I would have been able to provide a more convincing venture pitch. I found it tough to both create a product as well as pitch that product in the time I had after finishing the group project. That said, I feel that you are touching on something that with a little more brainstorming you could uncover a section of the market that could prove very profitable. Well done.

Well done on this one. You have perfect timing as so many of your audience have just spent the last week writing report cards in BCesis. I like the format (the website) that you chose to deliver your pitch. It allows viewers to prioritize the information they read and also conveys the fact that you know how to build a website and market yourself on the web. I like your solution in the "Challenges" section when you say that you will market when the budgets are the highest. This proves that you have "inside" knowledge of your target market and reveals that you have personal experience in the field of education. It was a good idea to show that you have a team of people who will be working on this project. This provides reassurance to potential investors as they are being asked to invest in a team rather than a single entrepreneur. It also shows that you will be held accountable to people other than the investors. Overall, I thought you did a good job as my yearning for a replacement to BCesis has only increased after viewing your pitches.

Good idea. You did an excellent job of hooking the viewer through your elevator pitch. In your venture pitch, I like how you go into discussing "why this is a good investment" early. You go into great detail in this section providing the audience with the appropriate background knowledge. This conveys a sense that you have done your research beyond the product itself and would provide a sense of reassurance for a potential investor. It might have been beneficial to add images to your venture pitch to enhance the written content and provide visuals to the concepts you are discussing. Overall, you are convincing and the fact that I now want to try one of these things proves to me that your pitch was effective.
