Microlearning: Simple is Powerful
By moumita chakraborty on June 19, 2016
Hello All, I have put together my thoughts on why Microlearning is the next big shift in creating learning. Although not formally, microlearning has already crept into our lives by the way to youtube videos, facebook feeds, daily updates. Researches are going on if it can replace traditional methods. But replace or not, in my […]
Gamification and Knolskape
By moumita chakraborty on June 4, 2016
Much has been discussed on how and why Gamification is crucial to increasing learning effectiveness. And just to clarify my thoughts here, I will quote the definition of gamification by Gartner, “the use of game mechanics and experience design to digitally engage and motivate people to achieve their goals” The key elements of the definition […]

Hello Noan, Thanks for your feedback. Yes, I agree, after watching other Elevator pitches, i also feel I should have done a better job. Also, targeting HR training and soft skill training is a good place to start. But a lot of MOOC provide those for free. However, if any organization requires customized content , we will have to cater to that. Regards, Moumita

Hi Tomek, these are great questions and I need to do more research to answer these properly. However there are examples of many service sectors operating in the same way. Now how much of overhead cost is that, I need to figure out. thanks, Moumita

Hi Gary, Thanks for your feedback. One thought, though. I don't think investing in LMS is the first step for any training. Smaller training content is cheap to procure and often boosts employee productivity. I agree that general start-up mindset is looking at training as an extra, and hence sidelined, But if we can showcase the value, that enables their business, maybe we can try to create a different story. I know most of my feedback is "don't train Start-ups". And when I say start-up I do not necessarily mean a 5 people company created 3 months back. It could be a 20 people company created 2.5 -3 yrs back. MY bad that is not expressed clearly. Thanks again Gary! Moumita

Hi Lisa, Many thanks for your feedback. This is the "pain-point" I am trying to address with my venture. There is s lot of haziness regarding the need for training, cost, duration, etc. More than often training gets sidelined due to all these. From my experience of working at different kinds of organizations, I feel clarity, communication, and some focus, in the beginning, can help a lot. That is what I intend to do. Thanks for going through my website. Regards, Moumita

Hi Laurie, Your concept is very interesting. I had no prior knowledge about the subject and your presentations gave a good foundation. Your venture here is presenting the concept to the admin of BCIT who will decide on whether to fund this venture. While I do appreciate learner use you have presented, are there any prior case studies that suggest the effectiveness of this technology? How costly is it to maintain the hardware chips? How do you plan to track the student interactions and data collection? While your concept is solid, these are few additional questions I would have as the investor. Regards, Moumita

Feedback: Hi Sarah, I liked your concept. It is very revolutionary and if it can be implemented as you promise, it will be useful also. From what I understood from your elevator and venture pitch is that the neurological concepts are already in practice in Arrowsmith school, but using one-one teachers. You want to create a software interface that will aim to do the same thing as the teacher. I think that is a very good idea. About your presentations, I just felt you can make it a little more visual. Currently, it is a bit text heavy. Also tagging with a bigger brand like McGill is a good idea and creates more recognition. Good work Sarah. -Moumita

Hi Michael, Great Elevator and Venture Pitch. In fact, I would consider investing in your venture. Your pitch covers most of the required details, like a plan in phases, market, competitor analysis. The only thing I would focus more on is You. The investors are interested in your venture , but they will ultimately invest in you/your team. So what is your expertise, who are you partnering with? These are the details I would focus a little bit more on. One more thing, is there any reason why you are targeting the school districts for your product first? In my opinion, you should focus on organization training, as it is easier for organizations to roll out this kind of money for training purposes than a school. Later when your product has gained traction in the organizations, you can use it as a marketing tool to the schools/institutions and showcase that the students will get a greater feel of the actual professional world by using your product. You can also partner with eLearning organizations for targeting specific clients and provide VR training as service (My idea is, in fact, a service based e-learning venture.). Please let me know if you want to discuss more. Regards, Moumita

Hello Tomek, First of all, I laud your effort and thought behind this venture. A lot of us go through difficult situations in life, but only a strong few step up and do something about it. So kudos! About your elevator pitch: I think it was emotional and struck a chord, but it is not really targeting the investors or highlighting your team. So if you want to raise funds for this venture, you need to find out a way to get the investors interested. Providing number of students that can be affected/helped can be an option Your website was pleasing to the eyes and very neat, but I have some observations: You may need to think about a more detailed plan. How do you plan to start, how to raise awareness, what is your 3-5 yr goal. I know you have stated it in brief that you will test it in your institution and then spread to japan, but may be a roadmap? You can allow organizations to interact with students and arrange for sessions on for example: how to cope with stress etc. You can pitch for mentors from organizations. This could be one of the ways to tap the corporate into your initiative. I wish you succeed in your venture. All the best! -Moumita
