A3 – EMR Adoption Management System
By Riea Elder on August 3, 2014
My Elevator Pitch My Venture Pitch: ETEC522_Assignment_3_RieaElder As I wrote in my reflection, this has been the most frustrating and interesting learning experience that I have encountered in this course. I’m not sure how many times I re-started the pitch – too many to count. The more I researched and thought about the pitch, the less […]
Week 11 – Review
By Riea Elder on July 30, 2014
Thank you Week 11 for an intriguing look at 3D printing. I didn’t realize how real this actually is and how schools are already incorporating this. Where have I been?? I really enjoyed reading the case studies because it brought 3D printing “alive” to me. The relevancy of the activity #2 was a bit of […]
Week 10 Review
By Riea Elder on July 19, 2014
Terrific site, Week 10! I have been meaning to do a little digging around on analytics but just haven’t had the time but you gave me the perfect opportunity. I enjoyed how your site was laid out – very clean and easy to navigate. I especially appreciated the checklist at the end because I almost […]
Week 9 Review
By Riea Elder on July 16, 2014
Thanks for using Edmodo, Week 9! I have never used it before and wanted to, but never got around to it so it was great being able to use a different tool. I found the wheel very interesting and realized just how much I wasn’t aware encompassed social media. Things that I have never heard […]

We appreciate your feedback and have incorporated many of the suggestions to improve our OER. Please check out our Precis for the wrap up and reflection. – Group 8: Erin, […]
Venture Analysis – Yammer
By Riea Elder on June 28, 2014
I decided to do my analysis on Yammer, a social networking application. We currently use this Basic version in my organization but thought there might be value in the Enterprise version which offers customization and complies with privacy policies. While researching for this project, I under estimated the mountain of government policies and processes that […]

BioDigital Systems, co-founded by John Qualter and Frank Sculli in 2002, developed a 3D health visualization body called BioDigital Human, which enables learners to understand the human anatomy in a way that simulates real life accurately. Qualter, a digital image specialist is also a research assistant professor at NYU School of Medicine which puts him at an […]
Hello from the Maritimes
By Riea Elder on May 13, 2014
Hi everyone! My name is Riea and I’m a westcoast transplant living in Halifax. We moved here four years ago and enjoying the relaxed pace of life. Including this course, I have four more to complete so I’m at the home stretch now. I find that I’m typically unique in the program because I’m not […]

REVIEW: I thought your elevator pitch was really well done. You are articulate and professional. Your idea is new and creative and this would have been something I could have used in school myself! I was extremely shy and was not confident asking questions during class or after class. I would like to know if there is a limitation of distance for the product. I was thinking that this would be a good way to let a teacher know of bullying outside the classroom as well. It seems quite versatile, which speaks to the extensive research that you have done and the viability of the product.

REVIEW: I thought your elevator pitch was engaging and made me want to know more about your product. It kept me engaged and you did a great job of the technology. You did a great job with the timing of the presentation and your voice was bold and clear. I like the concept of the adaptive learning and the use of analytics to keep learners engaged but this is only good as long as they log online. This would mean that the first class must be extremely engaging! Although I think this idea is new and exciting, I would still be concerned about the support for students who are not seeking knowledge and spending time online for the adaptive learning to occur.

FEEDBACK: The elevator pitch was clear and well presented. You have clearly done a lot of research for the revenue model and competition and bring a wealth of expertise and experience to the table. To fully take advantage of your product, it sounds like students would benefit from having a tablet. Does it mean, it would be less interactive if accessing from other devices?

FEEDBACK: Your elevator pitch was informative and confident. The music choice was appropriate and enhanced your presentation. You are clearly very passionate about this and it really shows through in your pitch. I'm not familiar with this area so I'm not sure how extensive of a software you would need for a high school that you can't find on the internet. You mention Google Earth and Maps...is this something you could use in your classroom instead? I was also curious if the tools for mapper are already in place, why you didn't have a team. Would you want to hire a marketing expert rather than a developer?

FEEDBACK: Your voice in the elevator pitch is clear and and confident. I think you did a great job combining the different technologies that you were unfamiliar with. I do wonder what the base content is and if that would be relevant for all users/teachers and how much time teachers would have to commit to making new content.

FEEDBACK: Your passion and enthusiasm was well presented in your elevator pitch. Your voice was very articulate and easy to follow. I can see how this would be beneficial for students who have texting capabilities like high school and higher education, but not sure how this would apply to younger learners as they may not have cell phones. I'm not sure how young they start carrying around cell phone but I recall mine had one in Grade 5 :)

FEEDBACK: I really enjoyed the fact that you combined your passion for travel and teaching into this app. I've never been to anything like meetup but I do think that the GPS aspect is very convenient. With a subscription, will the advertisements disappear or were you only going to have advertisements as you start up? I think your website was well done - organized and clean. I'd like to know if there is opportunity to meet in groups. I would have some reservation about meeting someone new without getting to know someone a little first. Maybe your apps has a chat like feature to see if you would be a good conversational match?

FEEDBACK: Your elevator pitch was articulate and organized. I was a little bit confused about the problem in your venture about the many technologies that educators will have to weed through to find a suitable one for their classroom, while you are also pitching another one to add to their pile :) I'm not sure you need to have that in there - just my two cents worth. I like your integrated approach as well as the catchy name for your product and the social community of learning.

REVIEW: Your elevator pitch hooked me to want to know more about E-Kuest. It was playful and fun but didn't have some info that I would have liked to see but I was already too curious about your venture. I think this is an interesting concept and the uniqueness has potential. The ability to customize your avatar and have rewards is a great way to keep the learner engaged. I haven't played many games, but have teenagers that do, so I can see the value. I especially liked the idea of question banking for teachers, which is a time saver and as you know, very difficult to develop good questions. Will you have the capability to analyze the raw scores? This would enable teachers to improve the questions, making the gaming experience better. Although I support this venture, I would like to know more about the investment opportunity, the team and how you plan to generate revenue. I was hoping to be able to see this in your venture pitch.

Thanks @kgill, keeping the pitch under 1 min is tough! You're right, I should have caught the typo. Thank you and I don't think it's harsh. Also, the acronym...ahhh should have caught that one, too! @danielle, the intent was for anyone implementing the electronic medical records or anyone helping with the implementation would be able to access progress at home. A patient portal? Great idea! That wasn't in my scope but certainly something to think about. As far as costs, it really depends on the vendor the client chooses. @Kendra Grant, it was tricky trying to get everything I wanted under 1 min and obviously the pitch suffered due to me cramming everything in. Thanks for the suggestion to flip things around.@Jonathan Lai, yes, single sign in and in one location is essentially the same thing. Definitely this would be something that could go to the US market and many of the vendors that I know and have worked with are more US focused.@ekitchen, thanks! I sort of got on a roll and then couldn't stop so maybe that's why there was too much info! @helder, thank you for pointing out the mistakes! I didn't do due diligence obviously :) @kburden slow and steady - got it!
