Founded by David Martin and Nancy Knowlton in 1987. Originally, the company was the Canadian distributor for a U.S. projector company, and revenue was generated through projector sales. That revenue was directed toward the research and development of the SMART Board interactive whiteboard, which would combine the simplicity of a whiteboard with the power of […]

Hello Everyone, Introductions are not my strong point but I will give it a shot… I currently reside in Calgary, AB. I moved here shortly after spending a year both teaching and travelling in Asia. Feedback: I like the concept but as a Mac user I felt left out :( I agree with some of the other comments that your elevator pitch could have use a bit more wow but the information you presented made it seem like a viable venture for investors to invest in.

Review: I think this app would be amazing for traveling. I liked your pitch and how you should the prospective investor that you could indeed make money. Also, by having a partnership with Backbone it creates more legitimacy for the venture. The question I have is do you think it would be used outside of traveling or for new immigrants?

Feedback: I really liked the elevator pitch but as an 'investor' it didn't really grab me, it seemed to be more focus towards selling it to teachers. If I had the investor hat on I would want to know how it would make me money. I really like the concept and though everything was done well.

I agree with Chris in the notion that this must be a space that is outside of the library. When living in Korea they have spaces called PC rooms where young people get together to socialize and play video games. I know this isn't an educational context but the social aspect is key in my mind, allowing for the chance of collaboration.

I think that apps, outside of creating educational apps, is another tool for student engagement. Students all have mobile devices with them at all times, why not put them to use. Allow students to utilize the technology they know and love in order for them to learn.

With education becoming more asynchronous Cloud Learning allows for collaboration without have to synchronize. I am a huge proponent of it as I seem to use it in every course I have taken in MET and also use it as a Co-ordinator for Calgary Folk Fest.

It's hard to add much more than what has been said already. One thing that is both positive and negative about digital textbooks is that there is an expiry date on use. The positive is that a post-secondary student would not have the hassle of selling their textbook after the semester. The negative is after a certain time they will no longer have use of the textbook unless they pay for it again or subscribed to it.

I think this a huge component of student engagement in post-secondary education. I personally have worked with our social media specialists at SAIT on enhancing our social media presence to disseminate a broader depth of information to student to have them engaged on Campus life.
