Rob theriault

Rob theriault

Hi,

I am Rob Theriault (last name pronounced like Ontario without the “On”). I am on courses 7-8 in the MET program and looking forward to the ETEC 522 learning experience.

I teach the entry level (2 year) and post-grad level (3rd year) paramedic programs at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario. I also work as an advanced care paramedic on weekends. I am excited to add that the two paramedic levels I just described will be merged into a single entry level as a baccalaureate degree in 2025. When that happens I will no longer be qualified to teach in the program and this is fine with me for two reasons: 1. I will likely retire when that happens. 2. The future of the profession is more important to me than my personal position. Further, I am optimistic that they may not find enough Paramedic PhDs to replace my colleagues and I, so they may lower their standards and keep me on as a part-time faculty member 🙂

In addition, I run a small business called “Paramedic Tutor” from which a draw an income from public speaking, self publishing and my YouTube channel.

I am looking forward to engaging with and learning from the ETEC 522 cohort!

New course suggestion

By Rob theriault on August 12, 2016

If I can offer a suggestion, it would be that, after delving deeply into the subject of augmented reality, I believe that UBC could develop an elective dedicated entirely to the VR and AR technology in learning. Thanks again for a great experience!
