Electroninks Inc – S Brett Walker

Electroninks Inc. created the Circuit Scribe which was a very successful Kickstarter project listed in November 2013.  Circuit Scribe is a unique ballpoint pen with silver ink that conducts electricity.  The ink flows steadily and dries instantly, allowing students to draw electrical circuits on paper.  They have also developed a full educational resource kit that […]

Brittany you have identified an area that many people are willing to pay for extra assistance. I believe that the market of both schools and students is appropriate as either one would invest in this, as well as the possibility of both if the student found the method to be very successful for them. I also think that your elevator pitch could have used some of the great graphics that you created for your website. I also liked the free version with an option to upgrade, this would increase the number of people exposed to your product. Finally, I would have liked to see some examples of how your product would be superior to your competitors, even if you had to use literal sticky notes to do it.

Hi Susan, I also really like the idea that you have. It could also be extended to paramedics and EMT's as the amount of professional development they need to complete is increasing as well. I feel that your product has potential and think that your goal of $200,000 is a the right amount to get it off the ground. Besides the reservations that the others have stated, I would be tempted to invest, but would need to research it more before investing that large of an amount.

Daniel, you have actually inspired me to look into Google Apps Script because I can see ways I could use this myself. I recognize your pain point, we just invested in PowerSchool in our division and it does not work for any one teaching a module system, so they must maintain a spreadsheet to do their marks and then transfer their results into PowerSchool. For your venture pitch overall, there are a couple of missing factors including the ask and return. Besides the comment that you are hoping investors will contact you, I don't know how much of an investment you need? I felt like the overall pitch was more focused towards the consumer than the investor.

Hi Roma, this is an interesting area to create and venture for and to invest in. With a budget of 8 million dollars, the ask is not small, and I want to be very sure that I am ready to invest. Instead of spending most of your venture pitch showing me the great things that can be done with AR, I would have liked to have seen more on the assets that you will be collecting for professionals. Did you mean that there will be a bank of avatars that can be used for various platforms? This is unclear to me. I was also confused on what the return would be for the investors. Would participants in Asseticity pay a membership fee, or would they pay per item that they use? With this many questions, I would be unlikely to invest.

Maureen, this is definitely a venture that needed looking into. I agree that some online courses that I attended before MET, the professor was not skilled in offering a quality course through a new media. You have identified your pain point well, and a solution that is backed by a skilled and knowledgable team. My concern is that many post-secondary instructors may not take the course, because what they are doing is fine (in their opinion). I was also a little confused with the Ask, to me it seems that you are making this pitch to the Ontario Government to support you with seed money and then financial support of $5000 for the following years. Are you asking for other institutions to match the government support under your Other Contributions in Kind area? Overall, I like the pitch and would just need the answers to this question before I decided to invest or not.

Danielle, I had some questions after the elevator pitch and you did a good job of answering them all during the venture pitch. In particular, I was thinking this is a great idea, but the curriculum's are so different in Ontario and Alberta that this will not be a good fit for my area. Then you explained your expansion plan, and it was well researched and planned out. I also enjoyed the layout of your team, it looks to be very strong. Great work.

Ivana, this is an interesting idea that I think would help some of my past students that return to our community with their degree need direction on what to do next. As jgourley stated, you have focused on Ontario, but this could have been a much larger market. I agree that you could start in Ontario to start your product, but their may be specialty programs in other areas of Canada/US that would like to be in a partnership to promote their programs. For example, when I attended the University of Saskatchewan, the Faculty of Agriculture was working hard to expand the understanding of their program. I would also be more likely to invest if you had found a software developer already, and was able to include them in your description of you team.

As an investor, I can see the potential uses for this product, but I am not sure what you would like from me. I also do not know who I would be working with, as there is very little description of your company and your team. I am shocked with the statistics about the college preparation for math and science courses, but how will VR help fill these gaps? At this time, I still have too many questions to invest in this product.

Caleb, I really like your idea for your venture pitch. We have been mandated to do repeated reading comprehension tests as well in our school, and currently we do them all with multiple choice paper and pencil tests that take hours to one class to complete, but hours to analyze. Your elevator pitch had me interested and I would have naturally looked into your venture pitch for more information. I felt that the venture pitch was focused on the consumer and needed more information for the investor. Before making a decision to invest, I would need to know more about the team of people that were working on READgauge.

Craig, congratulations on your awards. It definitely gave credibility to your championship and I would want to work with you on a venture that you propose. You have identified a great solution to this pain point, as many of my local teachers find field trips very difficult when most museums/zoos/field trip providers are a three hour drive from our rural location. I have to make a field trip incredibly useful if I want to create student buy in, and engagement. I agree with Cathy that I have started questioning how this could work, but the questions that I have also would be the same questions that I have about Teachers Pay Teachers that is successful, so that was a very good comparison to make in your video.
