A3 – Time Flow
By rskucas on November 29, 2015
My venture pitch is Time Flow. It is an application that I put together to help students be more productive when using an iOS device in their classroom. It serves to help teachers track time usage of all applications used on a device, it monitors the progress of applications that result in an end product, and it […]
Week 12 Activity Zones of Regulation – Piktochart
By rskucas on November 27, 2015
I chose to use Piktochart to become more familiar with its use and application. We have an upcoming Professional Development day in my school on Zones of Regulation and I used this platform to give a quick depiction of its focus to e-mail out to staff. I have included a link as well as there’s […]

Analyst Report – edmettle
By rskucas on October 18, 2015
I was recently introduced to this online social network and feedback management tool that teaches students hireable skills through online badges that can be endorsed by both the teacher and the student. This web tool was founded and is currently managed by a Canadian teacher with a passion for improving student assessment and evaluation. It is free […]
Paul Mishkin IXL Learning
By rskucas on October 4, 2015
Paul Mishkin is the founder and CEO of IXL learning. His first vision started out as Quia Web which is a tool allowing educators the capability to create they own interactive materials for their students. It helped inspire the “create-your-own” concept as many educators turned to different types of educational content for their teaching. Quia […]

Hi, My name is Rebecca and I am a grade 6/7 teacher in Vancouver. This photo was taken a few minutes from my school as I was out during a short walk at lunch break this past week. Getting back to the regular schedule means some busy weeks ahead so I’m cognizant of trying to […]

I like your elevator pitch. You clearly identify how this product can be helpful in companies to improve many elements in a workplace environment while also decreasing the cost. It lead me to view your venture pitch, you were able to pack a lot of information in that time. I realize to get everything you wanted to include the pitch ended up being much longer than one would like, almost double our allotted time. A level of refinement which can include eliminating information that isn't quite as impertinent to your pitch is a skill and I think your pitch could have benefited from. A difficult task I know, when you feel every part adds value to your presentation. I do think your product is viable in the market and could be definitely picked up by many companies wanting to improve their efficiencies. I do appreciate your viewpoint on how you plan to grow your business model and you're very specific in identifying your team, phases of product roll-out, and the financial costs to the prospective investor. Very thorough!

Feedback: I like how you orchestrated your elevator pitch it definitely was appealing to listen to. I think you are well versed in this industry as I am not. So I don't feel overly confident in pushing forward with such a large sum of money when I'm not sure what the benefits are to my investment in your venture. I also want to know that your company is offering something uniquely different so I know we have something we can build on. Do you have any ideas of how this technology can enhance the educational setting than what is already being offered?

Review: I really like your Venture Pitch. I think you are able to identify a problem and an AR solution that will work both in the classroom and for other environments. It would be perfect to help students learn a second language, and those students who struggle with language acquisition have instant access to the answers they need whereas students who already know the vocabulary aren't having their brain overstimulated with words all around them. I think it could also be used at in home environments with young children learning English. You were very thorough in your research which gives me confidence in your company. I do have some concerns as others have addressed as in the development of your app and if you have the current resources to put your idea into fruition as it seems likes a gigantic task to start up the initial task of the working AR "dictionary" itself. With a further conversation into what lays ahead in the project timeline of your venture I will be more likely to invest.

FEEDBACK: I have 3 people in my family who work in the nursing profession in various roles. I mentioned it to my sister and she definitely thinks your product has a valuable approach that would help her organize tracking of her own documentation that should could trace on her own device. So you have found yourself a product that has definite potential use. Additionally, this app could have potential in other market sectors that have similar guidelines such as Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, Fitness teachers, and Fire Firefighters. Essentially any type of teacher or career that includes safely training includes licensing requirements to remain certified providing a greater consumer audience.

FEEDBACK: Nice pitch Daniel. I fit into your category as being a teacher that enters their marks into a system more than once (a written copy/and electronic copy for MyEd.) Your product definitely fits to solve a problem. As a consumer I'm onboard to use it pending its cost and as an investor I am not sure what the future holds with your product. How much money is your company asking for and what is the return? Do you have any projections for the future after you are funded in the first phase? I would also like to know if you plan to make your model subscription based or have a one time fee.

FEEDBACK: You elevator pitch was to the point and incorporated all the relevant details one would desire when looking a prospective venture. I am unsure of what your target area is for the initial roll out of your idea? Is it just in Canada, your current school district, anywhere that game-centered learning takes place? Your venture offers another assessment strategy for teachers which provides a real value and one that could be used through the entirety of a child's schooling which would definitely be neat to watch transform over a period of time. I am curious if the product would go through some stringent testing phase for to see how viable they were in the classroom and perhaps the game could be rated by teacher's and students so that improvement could be made to make them even better so to ensure a quality product.

FEEDBACK: I definitely like the idea of having resources to support teachers in BC with the new curriculum rolling out next year. It would be place I would check out except that I was't given any examples of its use so I was unsure of what exactly it would provide or how I could access it. Could I simply access it from my computer at my school? as VR technology hasn't expanded to my school yet. I did find it hard to read all the information you had typed out for each slide in the given amount of time. Perhaps, having a voice over would help to address this situation and allow you to include all the important components that you think are pertinent.

Review: I really like your idea for your venture. I have experienced times where I am looking to teach a certain subject and need to look up an idea of how to present the information. Having an organizational framework that has all the lesson ideas in one place with curated ratings for each interactive lesson plan from other educators seems like a great option for me and would love to use. Using a collaborative effort is one way to improve on an idea and you take advantage of this thinking in your product. You clearly identified a product for a teacher market. You did included some competition however like others mentioned Teachers Pay Teachers should be included as it offers many of the same features Expressions would have as well. You include the who, what, and why for investment so I am clear what the investment in your company is for and what the plan of action is. I would appreciate a more articulated schedule of events to help in preparation for the marketing efforts. I think a 50% in ownership of the company is generous so I will take it and fund you.

Review: I like your idea for your venture. I have experienced this lack of disconnect between the "intentions and learning" of a field trip that you explain. You highlight a valuable piece of information that most museums and attractions have less than 5% of their revenue coming from student visits. A definite area that can be targeted, especially when so many schools exist in urban areas that offer different venues, museums, and attractions that teachers can take advantage of and cater to their needs. I do agree that teachers are the ones best suited to create meaningful resources for students that reflect the parts of the curriculum teachers are aiming to address. I am not sold on the part in which teachers have to create challenges themselves to generate funds for the field trip to take place. If the project falls through, what is the teacher left with? I don’t think most teachers would support this model, as the work they put in is not a guaranteed outcome. I know our school provides $10 per student for field trips for the current year and if this money could be put towards the challenge, proving it successful I would be more inclined to support it. Perhaps after some generated challenges occur from some of the organizations, teachers would have more confidence in the idea and be able to put in place ones for their own uses that would have the go ahead. The option where a cultural organization creates a challenge and sets the parameters of the project to stimulate pledges is better. Within the challenges you have included reviews and ratings completed by other teachers, and I definitely like the curated aspect for the future venture that so that allows each resource to get better or change as the attraction becomes updated or includes new exhibits. I think your venture has a lot of value and if tailored with the challenges to the latter option I would invest.

Feedback: Dan, I like the concept of the pitch you have envisioned. You have a made a point of the difficulty teachers have in personalizing and differentiating lessons for students with both the numbers of students that exist in classrooms today. I would have liked to have seen research or proof that this is main element to cause novice teacher burnout. Is it not a combination of factors that causes new teachers to feel overwhelmed, perhaps differentiation is one them, along with lack of support both from administrators and technology infrastructure, student behaviours and a feeling of a lack of preparation. I am not sold that using EduHUD will solve the problem of new teacher burnout. However, I do like the idea of providing real-time information for students with the click of a button.
