By Shayla Mangat on August 1, 2017
Hi Everyone! Both my elevator pitch and my venture can be found at www.wegrade.weebly.com. Assessment seems to be a common theme of conversation between my co-workers and myself which inspired this app. Looking for new and innovative ways to assess students as we move through the 21st century. I am hoping to complete my reflection […]

By Shayla Mangat on May 15, 2017
Hi everyone! This term I am taking my 3rd and 4th courses of the MET program. I am currently working as a grade 2/3 teacher in the Surrey School District. It is an inner-city school which lends itself to a variety of challenges, but it is one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever […]

Hi Stephanie! Thank you for sharing your new venture with us. I appreciated your method of communicating your pitches as it really demonstrated your passion for this venture. I really enjoyed your elevator pitch. You provided details that were relatable while also positioning yourself as an experienced professional who is ready to head this venture. This is a venture that is relatable to a wide range of markets, including education. You have identified and discussed the potential competitors while explaining the weaknesses of these ventures and how Learngevity offers specific products that pulls it ahead. After listening to your videos, it would seem as though you are ready to enter the market and launch. In order to feel fully confident in investing in this product, I would need a more detailed analysis of the state of your venture. How much longer until it is ready for market? What are your plans for after it hits markets? How are you going to market this product? Overall, this was a very compelling product and I can see great things for it in the future!

Hi Ali! Thank you for sharing you venture with us. I enjoyed your elevator pitch but I do think it could have been more effective if there was a voiceover and more information about the revised Babbel 2.0. Your venture pitch was well designed and easy to follow. You had clearly done your research on the initial Babbel venture and did have some compelling reasons defending the need for a revised version. What I am left wondering is whether Babbel 2.0 is a new venture opportunity or an extension of the existing company. If the later is true, then I would argue that this is a sales pitch as opposed to a venture pitch. As has been stated below, I am also wondering why an investment is required. If Babbel is a successful company with over a million users, why does it need more investors? It would be assumed that the company is making enough capital to reinvest in itself. I admire the fact that you took on the tricky task of revising an existing company; however, from an investor perspective I would need more details before investing.

Hi Janna! Thank you for sharing this unique venture with us. This is something that you are clearly passionate which came out in your elevator pitch. As an investor, I am wonder what exactly I am investing in. My suggestion would be to add the investment amount of service that you are seeking. As well, developing an initial action plan that describes the required steps for this venture to enter the market.

Hi Albert! I really enjoyed your elevator pitch and was excited to read through your venture pitch. Personalized learning is fast growing in the education field as many educators and districts are looking into ways to implement student centred learning at their own pace. As has been stated below, I was left wondering if students involved in this venture would receive all of the necessary requirements for post secondary institutions. I would see this being a large obstacle in gaining the trust of parents/guardians to register their child for this program as an education alternative. I would be interested in hearing how you plan to overcome the biases or preconceptions that parents have towards different types of education.

Hi Ryan! Thank you for sharing this awesome venture with us! You have clearly describes how this venture can improve the lives of anyone involved in education. One my concerns is the vast target audience that you have described in the elevator and venture pitch. In order to feel confident in this investment, I would need a greater description of the initial steps that you intend to make before opening your product to the market. Overall, this pitch was well thought out and I could see great things for it in the future!

Hi Scott! Thank you for sharing your venture pitch with us. It was clear from the elevator pitch and the detailed descriptions in your site that this is something you are incredibly passionate about. You had mentioned from your experience that students receive under 60% on their english exams. Are you referring to your experience as a teacher or student? A suggestion to add to your site would be a description of how the app goes about providing english lessons. This may help in making it more clear on how Mijikai differentiates from other competitors or like companies.

Hi Ryan! Thank you for sharing your unique venture with us! I appreciated the unique format that you used for your venture pitch. Your elevator pitch was detailed and had me wanting to learn more. One of my suggestions would be to continue the voiceover throughout the entire pitch. By hearing your voice we are able to hear the passion you have for your product and focus on the information as opposed to trying to keep up with reading the screen. Is the picture in your elevator pitch the exact learning box that will arrive monthly? You stated that consumers would receive one once a month. What changes month to month? Are the consumers individual house holds, classrooms or schools? I would need some more details before I was able to invest.

Hi Madeleine! Thank you for sharing your venture with us. Your elevator pitch was appealing with the combination of pictures and writing. At some moments however, I did find it going quite quickly and I had to pause to read some details; as well, I think it would be more powerful if there was a voice over attached so that we could hear your passion for the venture. Your website is visually appealing and easy to work through. I liked how you have chosen a specific market and target audience for your venture. Your passion for this venture was clear in your detailed description and understanding of the different requirements of health science students. A few questions I was left with were: what type of investment are you looking for? How will you be bringing in revenue to the company? What is your plan for initial development of the product?

Hi Agnieszka. Thank you for sharing your unique venture opportunity with us! Your elevator pitch highlights some key statistics that demonstrated the need for something like this. I think that the pitch could have been improved by a voiceover and some other forms of media such as pictures to go along with it. As mentioned below, the price point that you have mentioned seems a little high for the target audience. As well, I was wondering if this AR experience would be best utilized while the individual is driving or something that is done prior to getting in the vehicle. A possibility may be incorporating it into motor vehicle branches where new arrivers to Canada are able to use it before driving themselves. As an investor I would need more clarifications on these questions before I would be able to invest.

Thank you for creating an informative and easy to follow site. As I discussed in some of my comments I will definitely be looking into incorporating this not only in my classroom but in my school.
