Analyst Report – DreamBox Learning

By sheljon on June 16, 2014

This video was made using the iPad app Explain Everything and then exported to YouTube. I experimented with this format for the first time in order to determine whether or not it would be a good fit for Elementary use.

Feedback: Erin, you have provided a very professional and well thought out venture pitch! The video highlights the key points of your product and the use of audio and visual elements is effective. I found that you spoke a little fast during the elevator pitch and at times I had difficulty absorbing all of the information. Overall, great work! Monique

Feedback: Great pitch Jonathan! You appeared calm and relaxed in your pitch and the addition of graphics enhanced the explanation of your product. The technology behind the product has been outlined in detail, in addition to the many applications of I-Control. I would like to more about other similar ventures and how I-Control compares. Feedback: Interesting product Danielle! As already mentioned, an audio track would enhance your elevator pitch. You have done a wonderful job of describing the many capabilities of your pitch and the value of accessing multimedia resumes. You have mentioned the type of other products that exist but it might be worthwhile mentioning a couple by name. Overall, great pitch! Monique

6 Aug Posted on Assignment 3 : ConstructWithUs – a new venture!

Feedback: Great job! You have clearly outlined all elements of the pitch presenting a strong product for potential investors. You have mentioned intentions to expand to other provinces and include French. It might be worthwhile adding that existing projects can easily be linked to curriculum in other provinces. This will illustrate to investors how quickly you can adapt to other markets. Monique

Review: Beginning your presentation with a question is an effective way of grabbing the attention of your audience. You had me listening intently at the outset. You have done a superior job of explaining the function and utility of your app. Screenshots and graphics illustrating exactly how your venture works provides a clear picture for investors. You have clearly identified your market gap with solution and provided several examples of similar products while demonstrating how HightlightThis is unique. The diverse backgrounds and expertise of your management team gives your venture greater credibility. It might be effective to add the names of team members along with the graphics. Information about what you require from investors and their forecasted return is clear and compelling. As a potential investor, I would like more information about how you will identify teachers within your market, in particular those educators using the flipped classroom model? Another minor comment is about the yellow slide with the title a web highlighting app for teachers. There was a slight lag before any text appeared on the screen. I’m not sure if it was a one-time event but it did impact the flow of the presentation. Overall, this was a fantastic pitch and I would be willing to invest in this venture. Monique

5 Aug Posted on A3: PRO-T

Feedback: This is an interesting idea Chris. The video provides a good overview of your product and your voice is clear and easy to listen to. Unfortunately the lighting made your image appear a little dark. The Pro-T name and logo is creative, making it memorable while the layout of the website is easy to navigate. Professional development is a huge market and this venture identifies existing competitors and demonstrates why Pro-T is a superior product. The visuals and specific data associated with the target market, strengthens this pitch. The overview of the team members provides investors with a better understanding of the expertise and talents behind the venture. Information regarding investments and returns is also clearly outlined. Monique

4 Aug Posted on Classroom Library Catalog App

Review: Great idea! This is definitely something I could use to keep track of my classroom resources. I liked the graphics, colours and text you used for your elevator pitch. You kept the ideas quick and succinct. It may have been beneficial to include a voice over of the text to add a personal element and minimize the amount of text to read in a short period of time. The audio you added to your prezi, coupled with the text and graphics, made the presentation easier to follow. You have identified and explained a viable market by outlining the amount of money teachers spend on resources, most notably books, without an effective method of ensuring their safe return. By providing specific information about your target market and possible future markets, you presented a clearer picture of its potential. The specific data projecting profits and the return for investors makes a compelling offer. I didn’t see any discussion about the competition to differentiate the Classroom Library Catalog App from other existing products. More information about the team behind this product would also be valuable. I see promise in this venture and would be willing to invest. Monique

4 Aug Posted on Venture Pitch: KSeeker

Review: Your pitch clearly outlines all elements to showcase your venture to potential investors. The elevator pitch is quick, clear and concise. The combination of text with graphics and voice track makes it easy to follow. With the amount and size of some of the text, it is most effective in full screen mode. The choice to begin your venture pitch with the KSeeker team provides a face for the company at the outset. Through statistics and graphs, the gap in the success rates of online learners is identified. You have explained how the adaptive learning techniques of KSeeker can offer a solution and provide a unique feature unavailable in similar products. The choice to add specific names and details of competitors lends credibility to your claims. For those unfamiliar with data analytics, the examples provide a real context to illustrate the capabilities of this feature. The examples also serve to showcase how mastery of content can be improved through the use of this platform. The integration of diagrams, graphs, photos and tables enhance the presentation and value of this venture, in particular the table outlining the projected revenue of this venture. It clearly compares existing pricing formats with those of KSeeker and the benefits of the latter. Although you have identified “the ask”, it lacks detailed information. What specifically would you like from investors and what is the potential return for those who choose to support you? Overall this is a great pitch and I would be willing to invest. Monique

Thanks for your feedback. Younger readers read along to the audio and text. The program itself would not be monitoring the progress of the students. Teachers could track the number and frequency of the texts accessed but would still need to evaluate the reading proficiency and improvements of students. The benefits come more in the motivating factor and collaborative features, particularly with older reluctant readers. This provides a purpose for their reading and puts them in a leadership role. As they practice reading and record the texts, they are helping younger students in their school.
