Tyler

I’m a secondary teacher with a personal and a pedagogical passion for the French language. Outside of the classroom I like playing sports and playing music.
Assignment Three
By Tyler on July 20, 2019
If technology were way farther along than it actually is, Choose Your Own Ed-venture would be the next big thing in the personalized learning market. I chose to invent my own something for this assignment. Or my own idea of a something anyhow – as there’s no coding or anything anything actually done. The “elevator […]
Assignment 1 – Edmodo
By Tyler on June 12, 2019
Edmodo is, at its core, a stripped down version of Facebook for educators to better engage with their students. It offers to educators the same functionality that they’re familiar with and it offers to students an extremely friendly user experience. There are security measures in place to keep content private and it’s even possible to […]
Åsmund Furuseth and Kahoot!
By Tyler on May 27, 2019
Åsmund Furuseth is C.E.O. and a co-founder of Kahoot!, the e-learning platform that allows educators to design multiple choice quizzes for their students. The responses to the questions are then tabulated in real time by the software and a running tally is shown on the screen after every question. The students get engaged right away […]
Howdy, everyone!
By Tyler on May 8, 2019
Howdy indeed. Do you ever say howdy to people and they respond with “fine” or “I’m good” because they thought you said “How are you doing?” or some such thing? I suppose that’s likely where the greeting comes from – so it’s probably me who’s wrong and not them. Hopefully you like meandering sidebars as […]

Great question about the how! As this product exists in a fantasy world, it would possess the capacity to take an encyclopedia entry and transform it into any of the four options. As for the age of the student, I imagine a software that would be able to account for that. But also, I imagine that someone who would search a complex topic, would also have an ability to deal with that topic.

AI advances could for sure help take personalized learning into adaptive learning - that would be the next step for sure.

I really like the idea of highlighting the words as they're being read. If I knew how to make that happen, I'd totally change it. And like you said, it could work a little on another style, which would be a bonus. As for why the text was there in the auditory spot, it was really just because I felt a blank screen would have looked bad.

Hi Ying. Thanks for responding. I'd say first that the humour was mostly due to the fact that my friend and I were "playing" multiple "characters". That certainly made it funny, but it wasn't written with a comedic angle. I tried to get more people to help me out and participate as the "Lions", but it was a warm sunny day and no one was keen - so I did what I could. But more to your point, I don't believe that humour takes away from professionalism at all. In fact, laughing releases endorphins which make people more comfortable and set them more at ease. If anything I'd say that this would make them more receptive to an investment pitch.

The standardized testing idea is fantastic. It'd appease schools both old and new. Great call.

I really liked the slideshow style of the elevator pitch. That was a big win. I'm very skeptical of anything where I hear the word "internship" though - because for me that's free labour and incredibly exclusionary and exploitative. Even within the framework of a university course, all work for an employer should be compensated. And I have a hard time imagining multiple companies lining up to take part in something like this without a complete paradigm shift toward a world where work experience is a part of school and where school is viewed as a very direct path to a very specific career. And then the question becomes what of learning for learning's sake?

This is a wonderful way to reach kids. To properly teach something, you need to understand it - so what a great way to demonstrate learning. And I thought it was cool bringing your little man into it. I feel it lends a little more credibility to the venture. And I liked the idea of appealing to a partner too. As in, you're in this for the good, not to be the head honcho. A true Susan.

Such a fantastic idea. And so viable in the educatinal market in Canada. First Peoples' perspectives are built into curricula across the country, so having an opportunity to do something like this rather than another project on a First Nation would be a welcome change. And just from a production standpoint, the connection you have to the material really comes off and lends a great deal of credibility to your pitch. Sarahs everywhere would be into it. And so would I.

Such a cool idea! I'm always hoping for ways for my students to see their phones as a tool, rather than a toy. This would be such a fun tool! I follow on Facebook and Instagram "Vancouver Then",a site that shows photos of old sites in the city. It's alsways absolutely fascinating. This idea would take that and bring it to the next level by having the learner present on site and able to interact with it in a way heretofore impossible. Absolutely awesome. I'd invest in this if I had any money at all. Which I do not.
