4 Dec Posted on Assignment #3 – Social Media

Hi Brenda, your venture attacks an important and commonly seen problem on social media. But like Bryan, I wonder if the price is too low for the costs involved. Would the price change depending on the business size? Or would fortune 500 company be paying the same as a new small business? Maybe you can look at how many users per price range. Overall, I think your venture sounds promising yet challenging at the same time, but I would invest to back you up. Good luck.

4 Dec Posted on ETEC 522: Elevator & Venture Pitch – Content Connections

I like your elevator pitch, attractive and easy to understand. I don't see many Math e-learning ventures that work well so I'd be interested in investing at the right amount and the price you are asking is a little high because if that 100,000 amount is what you are asking for from each investor, won't that be a lot of money? Unless you are only looking for one investor or two. There are also some really useful and good Math aid sites like IXL already unless you have a unique selling point like a lesson delivery method that is very efficient this venture might not get far. Because I know some high school students who take Math and Science course online through distance education, and they need to get a tutor on the side as well. Overall, I wouldn't invest.

4 Dec Posted on Assignment 3: Venture Pitch for Schulich Startup Online Community

Feedback: I would invest in this venture because I like the idea of creating an environment that gives students an opportunity to learn real like skills for something they like or want to do before they actually finish school and have no immediately available support. I think your idea ties in with the concept of hands-on learning but at a post-secondary level. So I believe if done well, it would work. Back in high school, I've seen the marketing and business class students work on semester-long projects where they were given a budget and a timeframe to start and try a business as a class/company. They were given a space as well, so every semester, that class would present and run their business in school and evaluation would be given based on the outcome and what they've learned. The students all learned a lot, but the resources were limited as it was just secondary school level. I think at a post-secondary level, this idea would really work. Good job.

4 Dec Posted on Assignment 3 – Symposium Social Reading App

Feedback: Interesting idea. But I wouldn't invest in this venture at the moment because I think this venture sounds more like something that can be used AFTER completing the readings instead of using it DURING or BEFORE as a reading platform substitute to engage reading. I can see instructors try this for a while, but then ultimately find it to be not that useful as this would require more input from the instructors and peers for each reading that can't be easily controlled. Suggestions: If Symposium allows instructors to open and close a required reading session, then I suppose the idea could work because then students and instructors won't have to wait constantly for an update or discussion to start without a clear date. So adding a timeframe feature might be useful, but then be sure to have it as read-only after so that students can continue to view the content, though comments can't be added. Just a thought. Great pitch though.

3 Dec Posted on Assignment #3 – Virtually Safe

Feedback: This sounds like a product that can only be used once per household. Like a safety assessment via videos instead of getting an actual evaluator to come into the household to make the assessment. For the price that the user will pay for this service, it seems very improbable for the services to be delivered within the timeframe given as the price is quite low so many will want to use the service at the same time and there would be an overload, unless you have many trained employees who can give assessments quickly or if it's automated. If this was to occur, what would your plan be? If each assessment is individualized and catered to the video the users sent it, would the time spent on giving the feedback be equivalent to the price they are paying, or would the costs be much higher. Honestly, if this was an app that charges per room, or one-time service provider that charges much more, I can see the venture being successful. But currently, this venture wouldn't be an investment I would want to put money into as I see labour fees putting the business in the red more than in the green. But good luck.

3 Dec Posted on LiveSync – the web browser plugin

Your venture aims to attack a very crucial problem in online education. I would invest in it and use it, as I often interview and test students in China and always find it hard to know for certain if the student on the other end of my skype connection is actually alone or not and doing the given work themselves. This plugin would definitely help with my written testing component for my testing sessions, even better if there is a webcam capability that allows me to see the student as well. I'd invest just to help fund further research for this product. Good luck.

This seems very doable. I'll invest. I am an ESL teacher and second language user of Cantonese and Mandarin and so I understand the struggle that many Mandarin users have for English learning. I think this would be a great product to invest in as I can see the potential and picture the vast clientele who would use the product if marketed correctly.

Review: Nice work with the video and site. Very professional looking. If the product is only for businesses, to provide updates about the company to employees, it seems like the businesses would have other methods already that are more secure. If this venture is to provide updates about the companies to the general public, it seems like it would be similar to a press release or a business news channel that covers all types of businesses not just for that one company as specific updates about the status of a company's operations wouldn't be available to the general public for obvious reasons. If the venture is to provide news for specific businesses to the public, it doesn't seem like it would be used often either. The concept is interesting but not new as I do like to listen to Business news once in awhile. Maybe instead of using Spotify Business to introduce the business updates, use it to hold tutorials on how to use specific products that businesses carries would be better. Because in our current day, businesses usually have their own website to introduce and notify the public already so having it available on Spotify Business to listen to doesn't seem practical. Just my opinion. But great job.
