No, I would not invest in PrintPass. As…

No, I would not invest in PrintPass. As a classroom teacher, the CEO’s pain points really resonated with me. I have wished so many times for something like PrintPass to exist and I was certainly hooked from the onset. The strongest part of the pitch is the charisma, passion and confidence Victoria exudes in her pitch. Her recognition of Apple’s failure to support multi-user capability is strong but it also made me realize that PrintPass’ entire venture concept banks on the idea that Apple will not change. Though it is true that Apple does not always design in the interest of the user (think of all the various USB cords it takes to charge different generations of Apple products), to hinge a million dollar project on the belief that Apple won’t update its iOS to include a feature is too risky. The problem with PrintPass is that the product does not offer anything original, rather it is, from a coding perspective, adding a few lines of code to something that is missing those lines. The product does not innovate, it simply repairs. For Apple, it wouldn’t be a difficult task to include this code and there must be reasons why it doesn’t but there isn’t evidence that it won’t. The lack of original value in the venture concept ultimately undermines its staying power. What happens to my investment if Apple includes multi-user features in its next iOS? As a classroom teacher, I agree wholeheartedly with the CEO and would love for PrintPass to be a reality but as an EVA, I find the opportunity space too small (and potentially non-existent) to be confident in my investment. Despite the CEO’s strong pitch, the product itself needs some reworking to ensure that its success does not depend on a tech giant not including a feature.
