Thanks for the posting Reg. I found a quick interview with Lane on the cbc website (https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/1217360963757). It appears as though Lane has extensive experience in startup ventures as well as a strong network of expertise to ensure that ventures can be supported through the early start up process. I think that Lane has hit upon a very big trend in schools – particularly in elementary schools – many of which are moving away from Grade based reporting to a more formative reporting system. A formative system will allow teachers to better describe student strengths and weaknesses to aid in overall mastery of a subject. The elementary wing of my independent school uses Freshgrade and from what I’ve heard, parents are happy with the access to regular online updates. I think Lane has a strong vision for his companies and would make a strong role model for entrepreneurs.

That's great to hear Chris! I admire that Merrifield was able to co-develop a concept that imposes positive change upon the system almost forcing it to adapt as a result of the overwhelming benefits associated with it, rather than waiting for the system to change and adapting to it after the fact, as is the case with most large institutions/corporations.
