Truly outstanding OER but because I’m interested in AI, I had read, a few weeks ago, Paul’s analyst report and I found that a lot of the information on this OER was a repeat for me and I did not learn as much as I had wished. I noticed the new information though and it was very interesting content so I still got something from the OER . The video on the chinese experiment is fascinating and sparked genuine interest in me. Thanks for highlighting it because it may be one of the most important current social/technological experiment.

One thing, I felt was missing (unless i missed it!) was some kind of cost breakdown of using AI versus Human for some specific tasks. Since investors were one of your target audience, that’s something they want to know. For example, through your excellent activity, we’ve seen some of the challenges experienced by users of ChatBolts…since the level of customer service we get from ChatBolt seems so vastly inferior to what we get from humans, I’m wondering how much money these ChatBolts will save companies. The financial incentive of using ChatBolts must be amazing since its kind of obvious that, currently, AI powered customer service does not provide the same level of customer satisfaction as human customer service. So companies are losing clients because of these ChatBolts…how is it compensated by the money saved by using ChatBolt? That’s something I’m really curious about. Thanks for this great resource!

Hi Aziza and thanks for your thoughtful feedback! Let me address your second question re. the rationale for the Ivy Chatbot. The schools where Ivy is deployed are using it in a very targeted way. It's not REPLACING human information providers, merely supplementing them. For example, in the case of Temple University, it provides much quicker response times than their overburdened call center can, for a large class of simple queries that are well suited to chatbots like Ivy (see this case study video: https://vimeo.com/322805216 ). Temple wouldn't have done that if it weren't both improving service AND saving money over hiring more call center staff. As long as they are implemented in this kind of strategic way, with clear messaging and guidelines indicating what the bot is good at and not good at, I believe it can be an effective use of narrow AI.

Thanks so much for the critical reply, Aziza! I appreciate you desiring a financial comparison, however our focus was on forecasting AI applications in public educational settings where teaching services are being augmented rather than replaced. In this way it's not quite the same as industries looking to automate/replace a worker with a bot. I do admit, though, that we could have done more research in an attempt to predict costs so that our forecast could have provided some sort of cost/benefit breakdown, so I appreciate you pointing that out! In that way our forecast is more conceptual, representing a balanced analysis between what is possible and what is realistic, or highlighting the opportunities of greatest need and investments that would make the most powerful difference. That was our interpretation of "opportunity forecast" anyway... Thanks again!
